Furikake is a Japanese rice seasoning that adds umami, crunch, and flavour to plain rice. This homemade Aonori Furikake is easy to make and perfect for sprinkling over rice, noodles, eggs, and more!
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp aonori flakes (dried green seaweed)
- 1 tbsp white or black sesame seeds (toasted)
- 1 tbsp bonito flakes (katsuobushi, optional for extra umami)
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- ½ tsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 sheet nori (shredded into small pieces, optional for texture)
Method:
- Toast the sesame seeds: in a dry pan over low heat, toast the sesame seeds for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Mix the seasoning: in a bowl, combine the aonori flakes, sesame seeds, bonito flakes (if using), shredded nori, sugar, and salt. Then add the soy sauce and mix well.
- Dry & Store
- Spread the mixture onto a baking tray and let it air-dry for about 30 minutes (or toast it lightly in a pan for extra crispiness).
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
