Discover the delightful taste of Akita Tonburi seeds, a special ingredient, also known as "land or vegan caviar". These tiny seeds from the summer cypress plant, Kochia scoparia, found in the Akita Prefecture, are like little bursts of flavour that will add both taste and texture to a variety of dishes.
Harvested in the late summer and early autumn, tonburi seeds are a product of the knotweed family, offering a distinctive crunch, unique texture and a mild, nutty taste that goes perfectly with all kinds of food.
Tonburi can be flavoured with soy, ginger or chilli and sprinkled on top of sushi, seafood, salads, or soups for a tasty twist.
In addition to its unique texture, tonburi is a nutritional powerhouse, too. It is a rich source of antioxidants, alongside potassium, fibre, phosphorus and folic acid.
