This gorgeous tasting set offers a journey through the diverse styles and flavours of Japanese whisky.
Japan has some of the best malts in the world, these samples demonstrate how utterly astonishing some of these whiskies are.
The set is designed to showcase a range of styles, from light and floral to rich and peaty. The five different whiskies included are often award-winning and highly rated by critics, ensuring a high-quality tasting experience.
Mars Maltage “Cosmo”:
A blended malt featuring whisky from the little-known Japanese distillery Shinshu. An intriguing expression with soft vanilla notes up front, joined by sweet red fruit.
Nikka Days:
A relatively recent addition to the Nikka Whisky portfolio, light and inviting, with floral and fruity notes. Designed to be approachable and versatile.
Hatozaki Pure Malt:
From the Kaikyo Distilley it features whisky drawn from a trio of casks - bourbon, sherry and Mizunara casks. Delicately smoky and sweet honey on the finish.
Kaiyo Whisky Cask Strength:
A Japanese malt, matured in mizunara casks. This whisky has also spent part of its maturation at sea to help develop the flavour profile. Peppery at first, though soon enough wafts of buttery pastry, clove and espresso develop.
Nikka Whisky From The Barrel:
This award-winning blend is full of flavour, combining both single malt and grain whisky from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, which are then matured in a huge variety of casks, including bourbon barrels, sherry butts and refill hogsheads.
Full-bodied and punchy. There is plenty of winter spice and toffee, a little caramel and vanilla, and a good mouthful of fruit.
Each set comes with tasting notes that provide information on the distillery, production methods and flavour profiles, enhancing the educational aspect of the tasting.
