Made from Japanese Shiso leaves
Shiso, known in England as the beefsteak plant or scientifically as perilla frutescens var. crispa, is a Japanese herb linked to the mint family so this syrup is perfect for adding to cocktails, teas, lemonades and more. Japanese shiso syrup is created from shiso leaves. Fresh shiso can be used to create the syrup which has a refreshing sweet and spicy flavour so delicious you can simply mix it with water and serve as a drink.
You can even drizzle it over ice cream or pancakes for a sweet and savoury twist. Its refreshing and slightly minty taste makes it a versatile ingredient that will elevate any food you create.
It is a common ingredient, often found alongside sashimi, pickled plums and rice dishes. Red shiso can also be used in noodle dishes, salads, sauce, soups or as a garnish for many more recipes.
