Miso Coffee Recipe

Add a savoury twist to your morning coffee with this miso-infused brew. The umami-rich miso balances beautifully with the bitterness of coffee, creating a creamy, unique drink that can be enjoyed hot or cold.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp white miso paste (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup freshly brewed coffee (hot or cold)
  • 2-3 tsp sweetener if required (honey, maple syrup, or Okinawan brown sugar)
  • 1/4 cup milk or non-dairy alternative such as oat or almond milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the Miso: in a small bowl, whisk the miso paste with a tablespoon of hot water until smooth.  This step ensures the miso blends seamlessly into the coffee.
  2. Prepare the Coffee: brew your coffee using your preferred method and pour into your favourite mug or glass.
  3. Mix It Up: stir the dissolved miso into the coffee. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  4. Sweeten (Optional): add sweetener if desired, stirring until dissolved. Adjust to taste.
  5. Add Milk (Optional): if you prefer a creamier drink, pour in your milk or non-dairy alternative. Froth the milk for an extra touch of luxury!
  6. Garnish and Serve: enjoy your miso coffee hot or over ice!
