A day in the life of a wasabi farm
Take a tour through the wasabi beds, witness the daily tasks that nurture this challenging crop over the 18 months it takes to bring it to harvest.
The months are a cycle of planting young plugs, managing water flows and tending to the beds whilst keeping a close eye on the maturing plants and inspecting them for any signs of insect damage or infection. In summer, the shade nets go on and in winter all the plants must be carefully protected from the harshest of the English weather.
There is no electricity on the farm, all water is provided by artesian springs that are fed by aquifers 40 meters below ground. All daily tasks are carried out by hand including harvesting the plants one of by one.
It's a labour of love that continues to bring satisfaction of a job well done when a batch of fresh wasabi is delivered to a top chef, or to the home of our website customers.
One day soon we will be in a position to offer visits to the farm, if you would like to walk the wasabi beds and harvest your own wasabi, join our mailing list to be the first to be invited.
